Weaver-Jennie Lakes: June 13-14, 2017

Jennie Lakes Wilderness

My first overnighter of the 2017 season was an easy one in the Jennie Lakes Wilderness. I drove from Lodgepole Tuesday morning and started hiking a little after 10 AM. The trail from Fox Meadows to the Weaver junction had a bit of snow on it but the trail was easy to follow. From the junction with Weaver to the junction with the Stony Creek trail there was very little snow, but from there on there was no trail. I headed up to the pass and got a good look on the other side. 4 feet of snow and drifts up to 8 feet greeted me.

After going 100 yards down I decided to turn around at the sight of snow bridges and numerous creeks; Weaver Lake would have to do. Getting to Weaver took only a couple more hours and I was soon setting up camp and getting ready for the night.

I headed out the next morning and made the obligatory lunch stop at Hume Lake for a burger and milkshake before heading home. A short trip, but a great way to start the season.
