Buena Vista in the Snow 12/31/16

We took advantage of this year's snow storms and made a trip up to Grant Grove to enjoy the bounty. The roads were clear all the way up, so chains weren't necessary, but we took them anyway. I don't normally walk through the big trees at GG in summer due to the crowds, but winter is another thing; I think the trees are so much more beautiful in winter with the ground and foliage covered in snow. After the walk we stopped at Grant Grove Village and bought some ice cream, it's never too cold for ice cream. :) After a short break we drove over to Buena Vista Peak and did a little more technical hiking. This is the second time we've climbed Buena Vista in winter, and I think it's the best time. We didn't have any snow shoes or skis, but others had broken the trail and we were able to follow it pretty easily. Once we got to the base of the peak we got off the trail and climbed straight up the mountain for "fun." The views up top were pretty cool, and we were able to enjoy them before the clouds rolled in, especially the views of my favorite mountain: Mt. Silliman. Dinner at Bear Mountain Pizza in Squaw Valley was a great way to finish the year out.
